The short version: The Catch Book collects nothing and shares nothing. Everything you log is stored on your iPhone and, if you are signed in to iCloud, synced privately through your own iCloud account. We have no server, no analytics and no access to your data.
Overview
The Catch Book is a fishing log app for iPhone. This policy explains how the app handles your information. The app has no backend server of its own, requires no account, and does not send your data to us or to any third party.
Information We Collect
None. We, the developer, do not collect, receive or store any information about you or anything you record in the app. We cannot see your log.
Where Your Log Is Stored
Everything you record — trips, catches, species, weights, baits, notes, anglers' names, trip locations and photos — is stored on your device.
If you are signed in to iCloud on your iPhone, the app also keeps a copy in the private database of your own iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit, so your log is backed up and appears on your other devices. That copy:
- Sits under your Apple Account, protected by Apple's iCloud security
- Is visible only to you — not to us, and not to other users
- Can be removed by deleting the app's data in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud
If you are not signed in to iCloud, your log stays on the device only.
Location Data
If you choose to pin a trip's location from GPS, the coordinates are saved with that trip, on your device and in your private iCloud copy as described above. Location is used only while you are using the app and only when you ask for it. It is entirely optional — you can type a venue instead — and you can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Camera and Photos
The app uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo to a catch or trip. If you allow it, the app can also save a catch photo to your photo library. The app never scans, uploads or shares your photo library.
Backup Files
If you export a backup, the app writes a single file containing your log and photos to a location you choose. Where that file goes afterwards is up to you.
Third-Party Services
The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking services and no third-party SDKs. The only external service it uses is Apple's iCloud (CloudKit), under your own Apple Account. Opening a trip's map uses Apple Maps.
Tracking
The app does not track you across apps or websites, and does not use any advertising identifier.
Children's Privacy
The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children. It has no advertising, no social features, and nothing you record is visible to other people.
Purchases
The app is sold through the App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we receive no payment or personal details from your purchase.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page and the date at the top will change.
